Reaching Out To Kayadan: A Journey of Compassion and Care

In the heart of the Jasikan district lies the village of Kayadan, a farming community that shares border with Togo. With a population of approximately 2,000, Kayadan and several other satellite communities around share various languages, religions, and traditions that coexist within its boundaries. Kayadan is surrounded by neighbouring villages such as Mangoase, Gobe, Mangokura, and Asele. Despite that these communities live close to each other, they share different languages, namely, Kabiye, Akporsor, Kotokoli, Ewe and French. Here, traditional religion, Islam, and Christianity form the main religious and spirituality fabric that guides the lives of its inhabitants.

The medical outreach in Kayadan began on a rainy morning on Wednesday 9th August 2023. Due to the heavy downpour, portions of the muddy road leading to the village became flooded and nearly impossible to travel on. Despite using pickup trucks, a portion of the trip necessitated walking, extending the travel time of our adventurous journey to Kayadan village to nearly 2 hours. Nonetheless, through the spirit of collaboration, our volunteers, medical personnel, and missionaries worked hand in hand with the inhabitants of Kayadan during the two-day outreach that would leave an indelible mark on both the givers and receivers.

By the time our team arrived, the village square was already buzzing with anticipation. The air was filled not only with the promise of medical assistance but also with the spirit of hope that transcended language barriers and cultural divides. The flow of patients seemed endless, as the audio Bible in Ewe language was being played to all those gathered and waiting their turn to be attended to.

The medical personnel tirelessly attended to over 500 individuals both on day 1 and day 2, proving that even in the face of exhaustion, the human spirit’s capacity for compassion knows no bounds.

As the clock struck 6:00 pm on the second day in Kayadan, there was a tangible sense of accomplishment in the air. A total of 1,344 people who came from their various villages to seek medical attention were treated, given medication and gift items such as clothing, shoes and bags. The children were not left out. Our Children Ministry team also had a wonderful time engaging the children in art, songs, School and Biblical lessons.

The outreach did not only provide medical assistance but through counselling and prayers, we also bridged emotional and spiritual gaps, and kindled a flame of hope in the hearts of everyone who attended. A total of 254 people surrendered their lives to Christ.

Indeed, the Kayadan medical outreach was one full of collective strength, dedication, and the unwavering belief in the power of unity from our medical team and volunteers. The outreach in Kayadan serves as a reminder that irrespective of language, religion or culture, compassion is a language understood by all, and kindness knows no boundaries. The legacy of this outreach will continue to shine as a beacon of hope, reminding us that the journey towards a better world begins with a single step, a step taken hand in hand with our fellow humans.

God richly bless you for your support! Keep praying with us!
