Established in 2010, Radio Gaakii over the years has been the primary source of broadcasting news and information, as well as sharing God’s Word to the Saboba community and its environs, reaching 13 districts and approximately 300 communities in the Northern Region of Ghana with powerful rich content.
The radio station, operating on the dial 88.3 MHz in Saboba, carried out programs like the airing of the Konkomba audio Bible, peace talks, educational, leadership, and agricultural programs until a fire gutted the station and destroyed everything on April 30th, 2021, halting its broadcasts.
To the glory of God, stakeholders, agencies, and donors have helped rebuild and restore the radio station. The station has officially resumed broadcasting and providing the community with information through its various programs, much to the delight of the community.
During the relaunch ceremony held on Saturday, July 9th, 2022, the Vice President of Theovision International, Mr. Theodore Philip Asare, in his speech, offered his sincere congratulations to the management and staff of Radio Gaakii, the Chief, District Assembly, Churches, and all partners who helped to restore Radio Gaakii to its improved state. He emphasized that the radio plays a key role in the development of the town and its neighbouring communities, serving as a powerful tool that markets Saboba for its businesses, tourism, and cultural resources to the rest of the nation. “We hope the new facelift of radio Gaakii will foster and create a brand-new cultural bridge in building relations between Saboba and many other communities,” he stated.
The Konkomba Youth Association President, Mr. Jawol Bisunna Titus, on behalf of the Saboba community, thanked management and staff of Theovision as well as the stakeholders, donors, and agencies, expressing his joy in the restoration of the radio station and promising to help protect and maintain the station and to also help in providing ideas for programs to help raise funds for the station. In attendance at this ceremony were the community youth centre, which represented World Vision, representatives of CHRAJ, Security personnel, and the local Christian Council of Churches.
The radio has begun its broadcast and the people of Saboba are excited. They believe that the radio will continue to assist them in their future endeavours by informing them about events in and out of their community, as well as educating and providing cultural and religious content.
