Paul Nlikpa and his wife, Paka Nlikpa live in a town called Kimoateek, located in the Chamba district of the Northern Region of Ghana; along with their three (3) children. When Paul’s brother, Ubor Nlikpa died a few years back, the whole family began to live in fear of death because of the mysterious way in which he had died. As a result, Paul was afraid that his family, perhaps, may have been put under a curse. As a result, Paul became a desperate man seeking for spiritual protection to secure his family.

Fear has a way of impacting our thinking and decision-making in negative ways, leaving us susceptible to intense emotions and impulsive reactions. Without the right interventions, positive people can sometimes become timid and very vulnerable. For Paul, he was of the view that since the spiritual world also has a hierarchical structure, then all he needed to do was to seek out more powerful spirits who can protect his family from the lesser spirits who were seeking after them to destroy them. He was bent on doing whatever it takes to break the supposed curse on his family. He traveled about 185km to Kpassah in the Northern part of the Volta Region to secure charms from a witch doctor (fetish priest) for his family.

Few months after going for these charms, 53-year old Paul unfortunately lost his daughter and death won the battle yet again. Paul took to grief, as his search for protection from other Voodoo gods intensified. He was determined to do everything within his power to win the battle against death no matter the cost.

After many months of Paul’s search, he came across Theovision’s Bible Listening Group in Chamba, where he lived with his family. He decided to join his friends to attend the listening session one day. As Paul sat down and listened to God’s Word in his mother tongue, he heard in the Bible how Jesus raised a young girl from death (Luke 8: 40-42, 49-56). The power of God touched him, giving him an inner peace he had not experienced in a long time. It was such a comforting touch of love he could not explain. “If I had known this earlier, I believe my daughter could also have been raised to life again and saved in the name of Jesus.” Paul exclaimed!

Finally! A ray of sunshine has appeared to Paul in the midst of the darkness he and his family were going through. Paul became a regular member at the Bible Listening sessions, and brought his entire family with him to subsequent listening sessions. After some months of finally finding solace in God, Paul destroyed his charms and together with his family, surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ and got baptized. Paul might have been searching for a god who could protect them, but in the end, he and his family received salvation through Jesus Christ.
