Forgiveness is an easy word to say but difficult to explain. It is even more difficult if you have been wronged by others and you have to forgive them. The case of Elder Jonathan Jiwornu from Nkonya in the Otti Region is an example. He shared that he had initial difficulty forgiving his brother who had wronged him.
Some months ago, Jonathan’s family mistreated him following a false accusation by one of his brothers. He was blamed for allowing a family member to be arrested by the police for a crime committed. This caused Jonathan pain and resulted in being vengeful. One day, the Holy Spirit ministered to Jonathan to join a Bible Listening Group in his community. Weeks passed and to his amazement, listening to the word of God from the audio Bible brought him peace. When he continued being a part of the Listening Group, he had the opportunity to hear about forgiveness: “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times? Jesus answered “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!” Matthew 18:21
This verse stood out for Jonathan as his pain and anger gradually dissolved from his heart. He was convicted and enabled by the Holy Spirit to resolve the issues that were standing between him and his brother and the entire family. Today, Jonathan is able to practice the act of forgiveness because of a Word he heard from an Audio Bible in his mother tongue.
