Kowie is a little village of about 800 people. It is located near Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West Region. Until Theovision International established a Bible Listening Group there in 2022, Christians in this largely Muslim community trekked to Tumu to attend church service.  

The implication was that many people did not attend church regularly because only a few of them were able to walk a distance of 3 kilometers each Sunday to attend a church service in Tumu.    

However, the introduction of the Audio Bible in the Sissala language sparked a revival among the inhabitants of this community that soon changed their story.

At the beginning, only a small group of women gathered once a week to listen to the audio Bible. But the more they listened to the Word of God in their own language, the more enlightened they became. Sooner than later, their faith grew into hope; hope developed to love for God which led ultimately to transformation.

Jamila used to live in darkness. She was burdened by worries and had no one to turn to for solution. But listening to the Audio Bible has changed her story. She has found peace in Christ and strength in the word of God to keep serving and trusting God.  

For several years, Mariama struggled with suicidal thoughts. But she has found courage through the Scriptures to enjoy life as a gift from God and to be thankful in her situation. Sharing her faith has led some members of her family to faith in Christ.  

Ramatu was once ridiculed and rejected by her friends and neighbors for abandoning the Islamic faith. Today, thanks to the audio Bible, she has rediscovered her faith and joy in Christ through listening to the word of God.  

The impact of the Holy Spirit through the audio Bible was visible beyond the transformation of individual lives. The community was so positively impacted by the activities of the church that inspired by what God was doing in Kowie, a Good Samaritan stepped forward and built a place of worship for the community.  

Kowie now has a place to conduct its own church service. There is no need to walk the long distance to Tumu to listen to the word of God.

What started as a simple gift from Theovision International—the Audio Bible in the heart language—has blossomed into a vibrant church, a place of refuge and hope, where the light of Christ shines through the darkness.
