Patrick Aklasu is an 80 years old hunter who lives at Adzakope, a farming village in the South Tongu district of the Volta Region. He is also a painter, and he has 5 children.

Born into a family with deep roots in the tradition of idol worship, Patrick has practiced this faith since his infancy. The idol he worshipped bears the name Ade-Torgbuizikpi, meaning “the hunter’s stool,” a deity believed to aid their family in hunting by ensuring successful game catches. After every hunting expedition, the animal’s blood and bones are used as offerings at their family shrine as part of their rituals.

However, in March 2023, the Bible Listening Group was introduced to Patrick’s village. Through this transformative program, Patrick had the opportunity to listen to the Ewe audio Bible, and as a result, God’s Word had a profound impact on his heart and soul. One particular message from the Gospel of John chapter one verse 2, resonated deeply with him. It spoke of how Jesus “was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.“

“When I heard this scripture”, Patrick explains, “I understood that everything originated from Christ, and that without Christ, nothing came into existence. This revelation led me to a powerful realization that it is God I must put my faith in, and not my idols.”

In light of this newfound understanding, Patrick made a momentous decision to renounce the idols that had been a part of his life for so long. Instead, he chose to embrace and serve the living and true God. With unwavering determination, Patrick gave his life to Christ and publicly affirmed his faith through baptism. This profound spiritual transformation signifies a significant turning point in his lifelong journey of faith and demonstrates the enduring power of the Word to change hearts and lives.
